Hi all,

Do my letter writers have to physically type up my AAMC ID and letter ID on the ACTUAL recommendation letter?? I mean, do they have to be like this on the actual letter?

To whom it might concern,
Blah blah blah so I recommend this guy.
Sincerely yours,
Prof. Xavier.
AAMC ID:XXXXXXXX
Letter ID:XXXXXX

Or, is it simply enough to forward them a request form from AMCAS and have them upload my letters as letter writer. And then I can just send the letters out without telling them to go back, type my AAMC/letter ID on the LOR, and upload again? Seems to me like including the IDs on the actual letter is kind of unnecessary if I already received the letters on AMCAS. However, the AAMC website did mention this below:

"Letter authors must include your AAMC ID and AMCAS Letter ID found on your Letter Request Form when sending letters, regardless of how they are submitting the letter. "

SOOOOOOO, which one is it? Do I need to tell my professors to type the IDs on my LOR?
I have been confused about this for a while, and have gone to many websites and forums to clarify, but none of them seems to give me a straight up answer.... (maybe I am just being dumb 😀) I appreciate any help!

!!!!!!!!!!!!

There's an LOE form on the Main Menu of AMCAS that they can submit with the letter!!!!!!!!!!!! OR you could just call AMCAS during business hours to confirm!!!!!!!!!!!!

!!!!!!!!!!!!

So there is no need to tell my professors to include my AAMC/letter ID on my LOR if I have already received it on AMCAS? seems like nobody really cares about this topic so I guess this is not a big deal...

Why not call AMCAS and let us know what they say.

I'm assuming you're having the letter submitted directly to AMCAS, not Interfolio. I suspect the process using Interfolio is different because those letters might not go to a med school application and therefore won't need your ID number. But I think it is important to have the letters on their professional stationery and it is signed.

When you create a delivery with interfolio, it asks your AMCAS id and AMCAS letter id to go on a cover sheet that will accompany the letter. But the wording on the AMCAS instruction manual makes it seem that the writers still have to include the ID number in the letter.

It won't hurt you to do it, it might hurt you if you don't. Don't over-research or over-analyze these things. Just have your professors include your ID number. Problem solved, your ass is covered.

I shall make a call about this tomorrow!!!!!!!!!

and post it here for your future references

no need! as long as your writer used your IDs to deliver, the actual letter doesn't have to include ID
