Hello everyone, don’t know if this is the right place to ask this question but this is a complicated scenario and I really need advice . I’m going to apply for medical school (MSTP) next year. I have four years of clinical experience under a supervision of the physician who’s licensed had been probated a couple years ago due to development of personal relationship with a patient. The probation was completed during the time we work together and the license is still active now. But these records are still online and trackable, even on local news. The physician knows me very well and can write me a very strong letter.

How would medical school admission evaluate this letter? Would this harm my application? Would the Adcom do background check for the letter writer?

(I don’t have other clinical letter that is as strong as this)

Any advice and suggestion is appreciated!

In order for this to be an issue, a given adcom would have to:

1. Be aware of this transgression, which is unlikely, and;
2. Be completely unable to separate a past behavior of the letter writer from his current ability to objectively evaluate and recommend you.

Look hard enough and you will find dirt in the backgrounds of a lot of people in medicine (and life in general). As long as he's not mailing the LOR from prison I don't think you have much to worry about.

This is re-assuring and extremely helpful. Thanks you so much!
