Hello, I wanted to know what everyone thinks about the old MCAT 3-10 FL tests. Do you think they are good practice for this new test? I know they will not have the P/S section but are the C/P, CARS, and B/B worth the time?

I already have the the Q Packs, AAMC Sample test, AAMC FL, and I will be getting the section banks and new FL that just came out. I also Have Kaplan 1-3 FL and TPR 1-3 FL and am thinking about getting NS 3 FL if everyone thinks these old test are not so good for the new MCAT.

To sum up, I am basically done with content review starting since this May (took a month of in September) and am looking at really doing more practice. Maybe an hour a day on content and the rest of the time on practice til Jan.

I'd say CARS is worth it but a good number of them are recycled in the AAMC CARS pack already. The passages from earlier versions in PS and BS are very different than MCAT 2015. It's good for content review but the style and type of questions won't help you (some topics aren't tested anymore as well). AAMC 10 and 11 are the closest you can get to MCAT 2015 but I still think it's quite different. If you want to use the old exams, I suggest you use them before taking any FLs that better represents the current exam.

To some degree, any AAMC practice can be helpful if you pay a lot of attention to the tone of the question stems, what makes the wrong answers incorrect, etc. But it's true that the passages on the old AAMCs are very different from the current exam. More importantly, though, it isn't just the CARS passages that are repeated in the QPacks. The C/P and B/B passages are as well. If you've already done or plan to do the QPacks, you'll have seen the vast majority of passages that you would see in AAMCs 3-5 and 7-10.

The section bank is great, though. Otherwise, if you're looking for additional practice, I'd the FLs you have (and perhaps others) and alternate them. Good luck!

Thank you for the responses! I will check out some of the passages once I've done the Q packs and before any FLs to get some more practice, especially for CARS. Ultimately that should only take a few days so looks like I'm just going to take more FLs, shouldn't hurt right? 😛
