I just took AAMC 3 and I got a whooping 24 (10/6/8). I am devastated because my score could have been at least 27 if did not make many stupid mistakes. Scoring that low after 3 months of content review is unacceptable. My target score is 28+. Is that a realistic goal since I am taking the test in July? Also I wanna buy the other AAMC FL tests but I can't seem to find the link on the e-mcat.com website to buy them. Can someone let me know how i can buy them?

I used to think that content review would be enough to get me a 30+ but It's really not going to cut it. You need to practice a lot more with MCAT style questions. This is what's going to help you to get around the tricks the MCAT has for answer choices. I would say a 24 with content review only isn't half bad. Those "stupid mistakes" you cited will become less and less the more you practice with MCAT style questions.

Content review is really only one part of the process. Practicing taking tests and doing thousands of questions in each area coupled with copious passage reading all under timed conditions is a completely different hurdle. You can reach your goal of 28 if you master the art of actually taking the MCAT, so don't be dissuaded by your 24.

I believe that OP has been doing lots of practice questions. See the BR thread.

If you take the test in July, I think that you can definitely raise your score up (especially biology up to a 10 or more). It looks like verbal gave you a run for the money? Have you completed the 101 EK verbal book yet?

I don't know. I was in a similar situation, scoring 70%+ on most of TBR passages (which from reading others' posts typically translates to a 30+) and was scoring 10's and 11's on TPRH Verbal Workbook tests. Got a pitiful 25 on AAMC 3 (9 PS, 8 BS, 8 VR). I think part of it is getting used to the format of AAMC verbal and the other part is just obvious gaps in content knowledge. I decided not to blow any more of the valuable AAMCs and will just hope for a miracle on test day. I've already planned out my retake study schedule and will use the remaining AAMCs then.

I have not completed EK 101 book yet. I did the first two EK 101 tests ang got 9 and 8 respectively. EK 101 passages seems to be more interesting, which make them easier to read. I think my main problem is my unfamiliarity in the way AAMC ask their questions. I will review the test thoroughly and see if I can avoid some of the mistakes I made.

It seems like we are in the same boat.... My average in BR Gen chem, Orgo, physics is around 70% as well and I thought I would run over AAMC PS/BS sections, but apparently that was not the case. Anyway, I have two more months to improve my score. I am hopeful that I can get 11/8/10 on the actual. And I am gonna buss my behind to get there. This test will NOT stop me from getting into medical (DO) school.

Good Luck.

If it bleeds we can kill it.

I'm surprised to see your avg was 70% in BR and it didn't translate. Everytime I see people post up 70% on BR it seems to be followed with some amazing 37+ score.

We are BOTH going to destroy this MCAT and laugh when we are in next year. 👍👍

My average in BR PS and Orgo were 70%, but it was very low in biology (around 60%). Therefore, I was not expected 12+ in BS, but a 9 or 10 on AAMC#3 would have been a good start.

Not a bad score to start with, especially for verbal. You still have time to improve. You could at least bump your sciences by 1-2 points each, and perhaps verbal by another point as well.

Keep practicing AAMC material for verbal. DO NOT touch ek101. It's ok to use tprh verbal only to improve your reading comprehension, but they are still far from resembling AAMC verbal. I said this already, but I think there are more than enough AAMC verbal to practice. Between the CBT FL's, the "R" version tests, and the AAMC SAP you should have close to 100 passages. That's enough to keep you busy until your test.

In regards to the PS, keep doing TBR. They are good practice, especially for calculation-heavy questions. For bio, there's nothing that will sufficiently prepare you for what you are going to encounter. Nothing. However, late AAMC FL's (especially 11), the AAMC official guide book, and TPRH-ICC are good resemblance. Also, TPRH-SW's advanced passages are good.

Don't underestimate bio, like I did. It will bite you on the real test. Don't think TPRH-ICC are "too hard"; the questions may be harder than the real test, but the passages are the same difficulty.

I, again, want to emphasize that you get the AAMC Guide book. The bio passages are very similar to that of the real test. Get the damn book!

You have time. Good luck!

I will get the guide book 2-3 weeks prior test date... Thanks

Don't read too much into it.

I got a 9/7/7 on AAMC 3 and am on track to get a 10/9/10 on aamc 4. (Haven't done BS yet).

But don't make excuses and say "I would have ... if only I didn't ..." because those errors will be very real possibilities on test day. This morning I got a 42/52 on PS, and 9 out of the 10 wrong answers were stupid mistakes. I certainly can't say I almost got a 15 on PS.

Exactly.

Bottom line, we are humans. We will still make stupid mistakes. However, with sufficient practice you develop some intuition about certain topics and this, in turn, helps you avoid making such mistakes.

I was trying to remember some of the questions I encountered on the real test last week, and I was able to remember at least 3 "stupid" mistakes in the PS and another 5 ones in the BS. They hurt, but you got know how to learn from mistakes so you won't make them again.

On the bright side though, that's good news. It would be worse if they were all cases where you didn't understand the rationale for the correct answer, right? I'd say it's easier to train attention to detail than to master content that seems to actively oppose you.

Absolutely. All things being equal, I got kind of lucky on the PS section because I was 3/3 on quite blind guesses.

I made a huge mistake last time I prepped by overlooking simple errors. I figured "I certainly won't do THAT again!" ... but I did. It strongly hindered my scores.

AAMC#6 on pdf

PS.....44/52 = 11
VR.....21/40 = 6
BS.....33/52 = 9

VR continues to be my issue...Just gotta work more on it.

AAMC#4...27 (9/9/9). Disappointed with my PS score but very please with my VR score. I could not access the periodic table in that test and that cost me one point in PS.

I see you jumped up quite a bit. Nice job!

Thanks 🙂.The nice jumped was in VR, but my PS went down. Anyway I have a month and half to go, hopefully I can get my PS to where it was at 11, increase my BS and keep VR at a 9.

August 2.... I want to everything humanly possible now to get that 28+ so i can be competitive for DO. I don't want to study for that test again.

I feel you. I got 24 on #9 and want to do the same. I'm aug 3. I think if we pre write secondaries while waiting on the mcat score to come in, we will be fine.

Yeah... If your GPAs are in the 3.3-3.5 range, you should definitely try to get that score up to 26+... You still have plenty of time to get it to even 28+ if you VR skills are ok. I am trying to submit my app two weeks before I take the mcat so my application can get verified by the time I got my score... I am prewriting my secondaries within that month I am waiting to get my score in and work on some on my LORs...

Are you saying that you can go ahead and apply without having submitted your mcat scores? I'm scheduled to take the mcat on 6/20 but am only averaging 21-22 on practice AAMCs. I haven't had o-chem or gen chem 2 yet, which is why they're so low. I was hoping to apply early to increase my chances so I was going to take the MCAT next week either way. If I can apply now without submitting an MCAT, do they send secondaries? or do they only come after the MCAT scores are submitted?

I think you can apply without an mcat score and submit it once the score is in... They won't sent you secondaries but there will be a thread in the DO forum where you can see some of these secondaries prompts... Therefore, you can prewrite them.

Cool. My sgpa is 3.7. I got an 11 on AAmc 9 verbal for what it's worth. I am hoping to bump up both my sciences 3-4 points 🙂
