The 3r, 4r, etc. (all the R exams) before the CBTs--how useful for prep? I know that AAMC is the best indicator/preparation, but do you guys think the R's are still pretty accurate?

Thanks y'all 😍😍😍

Also where does one acquire these older tests? I've also seen people on here mention taking AAMC 1, 2 and 6...but HOW?

Do them.

I thought it definitely helped. There are a couple of reasons why:

1) "Overtraining", so to speak, made the standard-length MCAT much more manageable. The R versions of the tests are 100/85/100 min vs. 70/60/70 min, so one can get through the extended tests, it prepares one well for the mental fatigue you see on the real thing.

2) Extra AAMC material is always better! The MCAT passages have a particular style, and adapting to how the test asks questions is a good thing. Also, seeing more material gives you more opportunities to flesh out weak points and improve them. It only takes one blown passage to take seriously drop your section score.

On the other hand, I took these tests as PDFs on my computer (and wrote my answers on a sheet), and one should make sure to take at least a few of your MCATs (10 and 11, ideally) from e-mcat.com as CBTs, to get used to the format.

but, don't also do the regular length tests:

Just FYI, the R versions of 3-9 do exist and are simply extended versions of the CBTs: they contain all of the same problems plus an additional 25 (or 20 VR). Taking the CBT version of an AAMC after taking the R version is tantamount to retaking the same test; you're doing the exact same test, but without problems that were pruned. Re-taking practice tests has limited utility, in my opinion, and shouldn't be done if you're on any sort of schedule.

Take the cbt first then take the R exams, this way youll get an accurate score prediction with the cbts and youll get additional practice with extra passages with the Rs
