How could you tell that it would be Asp and Arg? I would have thought Cys has a very high stability with disulfide bond possibility.

I'm pretty sure if you look farther down the passage it tells you which areas of the scaffold do what. Also, the extracellular matrix is highly oxidizing and therefore any thiols on the surface of a cell should be in the oxidized form.
