... will be held on 2/20/20. Is it worthwhile, and, if so, does anyone have any tips on how to get the most out of it?

Thanks!!

It's worthwhile... It's free and you can go on anytime. Bring any questions you have for each school or anything about your application you want help with. It might take awhile for responses, but some good info there.

Yes, in my opinion, if you have a school you are absolutely interested in, attend, introduce yourself, and ask well thought out questions (DON'T ASK QUESTIONS FOR THE SAKE OF ASKING QUESTIONS OR ONES THAT HAVE ANSWERS EASILY FOUND ONLINE). One of the admissions officers at my interview remembered my name from "attending" their AAMC virtual medical school fair! In my opinion, any opportunity to voice your interest in a school is worth taking 🙂

You know everything about med school apps, acceptances, and even CTE dates - why attend?
I think you're probably knowledgeable enough by now where this type of thing won't be all that helpful to you.
If you're serious instead of just busting chops, I'm not sure, that's why I asked! 🙂

I'm certainly not looking for a refresher course on how PTE works, or when I need to take the MCAT in order to apply next cycle, or whether an LOI will increase my chance of receiving an II in February.

On the other hand, I do not have a lot of specific knowledge on a lot of specific schools. I have spent way too much time on SDN over the past year, but I have not devoted any time to a national tour of our nation's medical schools, and I've only had the opportunity to attend one off-line medical school fair that only had a limited number of schools in attendance.

The honest question was whether or not this thing would be worth a look, and, if so, how to get the most out of it. I already received a few helpful responses, so I'm good, but thanks for checking in.

I only wish a few residents would come on here and put all of the premeds in their place for daring to respond to questions about how medical school reputations affect the match (and other related inquiries) the way the studs who have submitted applications and been accepted to schools do with lowly premeds like me who also have informed opinions but without having first hand knowledge.
I was giving you an honest answer to your honest question. Information sessions are more useful for people with less information. You asked if it was worthwhile. I said it is probably not for you.

For me last year it was actually pretty helpful bc I could ask the schools I was interested in about specific class prereqs and policies and whatnot. If you have questions about more specific school policies then I would highly encourage going.

If you don’t have any questions though, the questions that other people ask are kinda basic for the most part and probably won’t help you as much (afaik about you).

In that case, thanks, and I'm sorry about the sensitivity!! 🙂 Again, I am comfortable with what I know about the process, but I really don't know much at all about specific schools, what they look for, mission, fit, etc. I am hoping those are the items addressed. Otherwise, it seems like it would be a waste for the individual schools to participate as opposed to just having the AAMC have a seminar about the process.

nice we’re on the same page

In all seriousness, I spent an hour on it and would could take my time back if I could. I also knew nothing about the process.

If you have school specific questions, then I think it would be of some benefit. Otherwise, that hour would be better used elsewhere.

I’m sure residents have better things to do.

Also, if I spent countless hours on understanding the residency application process to the point where I was “knowledgeable”, I probably wouldn’t be on their forums as an M1... if such a thing exists, don’t know, don’t care (yet)... advising them. Otherwise, I would deserved to be put in my place.

I kind of doubt schools are going to give you much information about what they’re looking for, other than throwing around the word “holistic.” But if they do, report back. I’d be interested.

Yes, the comment was snarky and I took it down,, but the reference was to all of the future M1s opining in the premed forum about how Step 1 going P/F was going to alter the match going forward. Intelligent, well reasoned opinions, but from people with no first hand match experience, just like I have no first hand application experience.
