Hey guys wondering if you guys know what qualifies under the ABA recertification credits for QI. I saw the description of -

"Case evaluation, M&M, case discussion or practice
improvement CME
• Case evaluation – assess your practice and implement changes
designed to improve patient outcomes
• Morbidity & Mortality (M&M) – peer review of adverse (or
potentially adverse) patient outcomes to learn and prevent the
incidence of future errors or complications
• Case discussion – peer review discussion of a unique case or issue
• Practice improvement CME – evidence-based performance
measures and QI interventions are used to identify areas of
improvement in patient care"

Does this mean that being in attendance of department meetings where M&M and case presentations are done count for the QI attestation? How does the ABA audit these since the warning says it's subject to audit?

So, when the first rolled this out, there was actually more guidance and detail. Every single activity required a form to be filled out, in which one described the case, said what was the issue, and cited references. Same for case review. 'Case involving a pt with a certain mitochondrial disorder, this is where I looked for information.' It was annoying. I think there was also a way for the department head or person in charge of M&M/QI to attest to the activity. That all went away about five or six years ago

The very first one I did about 10 years ago, I did a chart review of some of my cases and then tracked a change in the way I did those cases for a while, then wrote up a 1 page thing describing it all. It was a fair amount of effort but it wasn't wasted time and was even sort of worthwhile.

Last I looked it appeared really, really hard to get sufficient hours doing any of the M&M or case evaluation stuff. For my last 1/2 cycle project it turned out to be simpler to just bang out the whole thing in a couple days by paying for those simulation modules.

Which I suspect is what they really want everyone to do. For rea$on$ of course.

This Orbit Anesthesiology ?

I'd rather not do the sim sessions again. I ended up yelling at my computer the whole time that I was doing what it wanted me to do.
Exactly! The worst sim session made possible. I ended up wasting hours trying to do just one or 1.5 sims, and that's with them giving me the answer key because even that doesn't work! I have PTSD now and start twitching just thinking about having to do 3 more sessions to finish it!!

Yes- someone recommended it on reddit and I needed 10 or 15 part 4 credits and got it through Orbit. You can also satisfy patient safety credits. I believe you can do the entire part 4 25credits through orbit but I would call/email to verify.

So how do you get credits through orbit? Does it have courses?

You install a plugin for chrome, log in. Then start reading an abstract. Most will qualify. The plug in will then ask you to fill out a quick survey after 15seconds and you submit. If I remember correctly, you will need to indicate that you’ve already completed the 125 reg CME credits and patient safety CME credits for it to start counting toward the Moca part 4. You can sync it with your ABA ID and it automatically gets reported

I'm just doing case evaluation and point of care learning. making a paper trail with interesting cases. if they ask for something, I can send that in.
One year I submitted 10hrs for point of care learning, and in the textbox wrote, "studying for CCM boards." I figure that counts, and I really spent far more than that on that activity.

How long do I have to keep the tab open\scroll for it to give credits? I need 15 credits by end of December.

And which package on the site did you select?

Literally only need it open for less than 30sec.

I did basic, around $350, but I had CME to burn

Since no one does simulation anymore, I rode this pony all the way up the mountain…
Point-of-care learning – Self-directed knowledge acquired during patient care (i.e.., researching cases and outcomes)”

Only thing to be careful is it’s like max 15 credits with that one. But you could do case eval for another max 15…

Are you saying you use point of care learning to fulfill the qi?
Indeed. At least for the 15 points. I did the VA airway module for a few points too. From my perspective, it’s spelled out pretty darn nicely, and I would feel comfortable with an audit. I would almost welcome an audit, the conversation would be fascinating!
