Had a question for a woman in 26th week gestation with a renal calculi with negative U/S.. I chose to get the abd CT scan. It's accepted that the 15 rads or whatever from a CT is not enough to harm the fetus. But UW told me the CT was contraindicated in pregnancy. DO I have to go into step 2 assuming this, or is this outdated?

< 5 rads is acceptable.

NO CT in preg

Agree. No CT.

Technically, if she's 26 weeks most of the important stuff has developed already, and if you were worried about a life-threatening illness that would kill mom maybe you could do it. But for a kidney stone that shows no evidence of hydro? Who cares? Hydrate the crap out of her.

I'd almost be willing to bet that Ex-Lap is prefferred as a diagnostic test over CT scan in pregnancy on the boards.

For the test, the only radiography you should be doing in a preggers is U/S and Xray.

Don't forget MRI's. Safe in pregnancy.

CT = No unless life threatened.
