I'm sure many of you must have gotten the email from ABEM, asking you to login again and update your profile etc. Under profile/personal information, they are now requiring you (as indicated by the asterisk next to the question) regarding your preferred pronoun, and asking about your orientation.

Regardless of how one feels about the issue, how is any of this relevant to our ability to practice as an EP, and maintain board certification? I think these questions are inappropriate and invasive, particularly the latter. What's next, ABEM will ask me how much money I have in my bank account, how many divorces I've had? If the purpose is to collect demographic information, that could easily be done via an anonymous survey.

From what I can see it seems that I have to enter this information, but if anyone knows otherwise, please correct me and I will gladly retract my statement.

I'm trying not to be political, but this is a relevant issue since this relates to what our specialty board is doing.

EDIT: turns out you can opt out of answering these questions. NVM.

One more recert and they can kiss my ass because I don't plan on working long enough to need another one.

My pronoun is Dr

Under profile/personal information, they are now requiring you ... regarding your preferred pronoun, and asking about your orientation.
No they don't. I picked "decline to answer" for all of the questions that I thought were stupid/irrelevant. From my profile:
