I am finding this new subspecialty ABIM 2-year check-in track to be very confusing.

Does anyone know definitively when in the process we can switch to the 2-year track? For example, if you took your 10 year exam 3 years ago, can you wait 6 more years and then switch to the 2-year track to get as much milage as possible out of your last 10-year certification?

It is my understanding that you only have to make the decision when your current certification is due to be renewed.

That would be excellent news and I hope is the case.
