Has anyone started preparing for the boards for August 2010? how are you organizing your time with work, family, etc? Focussing ore on questions or the actual material in mksap? Thanks

I used MedStudy as my text, boards were straight out of it. Also did MKSAP questions and read the explanations, but did not read the MKSAP text. I would start reviewing now, just so you don't feel overwhelmed towards the end. I never studied in residency, scoring in 30th percentile for inservices and scored 80th percentile on boards. Looking back, I probably didn't have to do MKSAP because it's just pass/fail, no one knows what you score. The passing score is 370 and I scored 540 so it's not hard to pass. Took it last year.

I am currently in the process of studying for boards too. I have been doing exactly what Nightvision said, doing all the MKSAP questions and reading Medstudy. I am also doing the medstudy questions b/c when it comes down to it, I think questions make the difference. I have already done all the MKSAP questions at least once since the starting 3rd year and I am now just starting over w/ the questions.

Medstudy and MKSAP worked for me too. I never took a board review course but my colleagues swear by some of the organized board reviews like Dhalla or Rahman for scoring high on the ABIM.

Do you think there is a big difference from medstudy 12th edition vs the 13th edition?

Thanks for the input guys! I have started doing MKSAP 15 questions. Some of the disciplines' questions are stupid hard...like heme/onc questions in MKSAP. But they are much more reasonable in Med Study Q&A. Which ones would you say the boards are more similar to??

Anybody has done this course lately?
Or planning to go?
Is it a good one?

I think this is the guy that's being sued by ABIM. Don't think there's a course anymore!

I thought the Arora Board review was sued by the ABIM, not the Dhalla ( unless by any chnace there are one and the same). Any idea guys?

Hey guys , I recently started studying , what should I score in
Maksap to have a hope for pass ? I am very short of time !
Thanks 😉

Guys, for the boards, be honest with yourself. Are you a person who managed to do well in med school without absolutely killing yourself, or did you always have to study harder than everyone else just to do average?

Does everyone pass at your residency? Are you a resident who pretty much knows a complete differential instantly on every patient you admit and what appropriate tests to order or are you missing things?

If you gave positive answers to all of the above questions, I believe you can pass just doing MKSAP questions or even less really. You could probably take it right now and pass.

If you didn't, I would do everything you can... MKSAP, Medstudy, whatever.

Hi anybody interested in revising Internal medicine general improtant topics per systems in form of discussion. Please contact [email protected] thanks.

I am using the syllabus from the MedStudy videos mainly. Just finished questions from MKSAP and averaging in the 70's; also finished MedStudy questions and also averaged in the 70's.

What my chances of passing with these scores?

I would refer you to this thread. ABIM is a reasonable test, but it's not easy, it's expensive, and it's given only once a year. So don't assume you'll pass because you did fine in residency, or on the Steps with minimal studying. A lot of people were surprised with their failing scores last year. It's impossible to know on the internet whether they _should have been_ surprised, but it would be a shame to spend the $1250 and fail because of over confidence.

I used exclusively MKSAP and posted my scores in the above linked thread.

An advantage that MKSAP has (that Med Study may not) is that I can also claim my MKSAP questions and reading for CME time - so not only did it help me pass boards, but it is now allowing me to easily document ongoing medical education. So it may be worth investing in the authentic program, even if you have access to a bootleg copy.
