Hi - I'm a new attending who just failed ABIM initial certification... questions:

1. Do I need to notify my employer?
2. Anyone else in the same situation?
3. I'm curious if anyone has come back from failure and succeeded the following year?
4. I think I'm AOBIM eligible - should I take it?

You will find all those answers, and so many more, in this thread over here.

To answer #1, only if your contract says you have to pass it this year. Most contracts say "must pass within X years of completing residency/fellowship", but X can =1 sometimes. Check yours to be certain.
