since senior year is the year you apply to med schools, fill out applications, and go to interviews...

that being said, will MAJORITY OF the application/secondaries/interview processes occur during ur SENIOR FALL SEMESTER or ur SPRING SEMESTER?

lot of u guys mention how the whole process is almost like another CLASS by itself (since it takes up so much time). that being said, i wanted to set myself up with an easy schedule for either the fall semester or the spring semester...

so which one is it? which senior year should i take easier, fall or spring?

Both..the interview season begins as early as October and as late as late spring

Give yourself an easy fall, I think. To make things easiest on yourself, complete the AMCAS early in the summer so that you can be working on your secondaries during the summer instead of the fall. This will also put you in such an early place in the applicant pool that your interviews should occur largely in the fall instead of spring. My grades are seriously subpar for me right now due to secondaries and interviewing.

yes, if you are on time, then fall is the busy time. I even had a few friends who ONLY interviewed in the fall and were in to a school they wanted to go to by the end of the year. easy fall is a good idea, as the above poster notes.

Take the MCAT in April if humanly possible. It'll set you back in the potential-interview queue. You can complete the AMCAS and many, but not all, secondaries without having received your MCAT scores, but the April MCAT is a lot better if you want to be sure all your interviews occur as early as possible. Just look around at all the anxiety in this forum from the August MCATers. 🙂

so ur suggesting that i apply to places w/o even receiving the MCAT score?

wat if i BOMBED it?

how can i select schools and choose safe/normal/dream schools w/o knowing one of the biggest attributes (mcat score)? just select schools by my GPA?

predict the MCAT score? or if i take kaplan/princeton review, just go by the score i usually make during the trial exams there?

They're saying if you take the MCAT in August, you definitely want to have your application complete and ready to go so that the only thing holding it up is your MCAT score (which should be available sometime in October). It takes awhile to process your application upon submission, it takes awhile for your transcripts to be received and processed, and it also takes awhile for your LORs to get to the schools--so you want to have all of this ready and complete before your August MCAT score is available. Yeah, its a risk to submit the AMCAS because you might have bombed the MCAT--but this is a whole year of your life, so many think that its worth the risk, because time is so valuable especially after the "August MCAT rush". You definitely want to have your application complete ASAP.

If you take the April MCAT (highly recommended), then you don't have to "submit" your application until after your scores come back, which will be sometime in mid-June (the earliest you can submit AMCAS is like June 6 or so anyway). When you have your scores before submission, you can better choose your schools.

Anyway, you can always add schools even after you submit your AMCAS, so its not a big deal.

Good luck :luck: ,
