Hi all,

I've heard so much about DAT Destroyer on this forum, both people trashing it and people praising it. Anyway, I definitely want to maximize my score on the DATs, and another study aide wouldn't hurt...especially after all the good things ive heard.

So how exactly does it work? Is it just a review book with practice problems? Also, what is this about calling Dr. Romano and him answering questions? Does he really do that for everybody?

I'm currently taking Kaplan, and I'm positive there's more I need to practice with than just Kaplan. I already have Topscore lined up and was thinking about getting Achiever. Is that overkill? Should I scrap Achiever and go with Destroyer and TS, or do all 3? I'm really just looking for opinions and input here. I'm just starting off on my studies. Thanks all!

wsup lilchinoboy03,

Im planning to take my DAT on Monday but I can give you advice on how I feel at the moment. It really depends on how much time you have. It seems like you have a lot of time since your starting your studies now. If I could do it all over again. I wouldve bought DAT destroyer first. Study, understand, and memorize the book. It has forced me to understand concepts I originally did not through rigorous practice problems. Practice with Destroyer everyday and also purchase Achiever. The achiever words there questions in a way which made it tricky for me. This will really let you know what your weak on. At the end of my studying I would then take the Topscore exams, as I hear that they are suppose to be pretty close to the real thing besides some bogus bio questions. Do everything you can, the only thing it can do is prepare you even further. The destroyer will be a great investment and I know if I didnt have it I wouldnt be nearly as prepared as I am now. Hopefully I am prepared enough haha. Dr. Romano is awesome. He is truly there to help. Hopefully I gave you some useful information in which you can apply to your studies.

DITTO! Buy the destroyer. I am positive I would have scored lower had it not been for the Destroyer and Dr. Romano (and Nancy of course). It will be the best money you will ever spend on a study guide, PERIOD!!!!

man, you guys praise this thing like crazy! i wish i had actually gotten it, but its too late now...

i hope i don't get screwed over bc i didn't get it

Agreed! Well said lifeisgood. If you have to limit what study materials to purchase put your money to good use and buy the destroyer. Do the problems over and over until you gain a solid understanding of the concepts. Then use topscore to test yourself. If you have the extra cash get achiever for PAT. Good luck and feel free to PM me with any questions.

I have a question... do you think Dr. Romano would still help me if I buy a cheaper, secondhand version of Destroyer (Had a friend who already took the DAT and am buying it from him)? Or is he the kind of person that only help his customers that buy it full price from him directly?

DAT Destroyer is undoubtedly the best study guide for the serious student who wishes to excel on the DAT. I say this from firsthand experience - DAT Destroyer was my central study guide and it played a major role in my 24 AA and my 26 TS. I couldn't have done it without the Destroyer - and I am convinced that anyone who discounts the Destroyer's content either never bought the book altogether, or simply didn't fully comprehend the material. I definitely recommend you buy the book - it's a decision you won't regret making.

the first time i took my DATs, i used Topscore and did average. the second time i took my DATs, i used Achiever and Kaplan and did horrible...below average to the core. now i'm taking my third DAT and i just bought Destroyer.....we'll see how that goes.

Likewise, Destroyer definitley helped me bring them scores up since I got schooled the first time I took the DAT. It is a book with questions for the natural sciences.. (bio,qr,gchem and orgo..) and explanations for each question. I don't speak for everyone, but Dr. Romano called me back and answered all of my questions whenever I had any. Personally, I highly recommend it.

You are stoked...i so wish i had found this thing much sooner. I only had one week to review the destroyer so I focused mainly on bio and a few questions in g cehm and ochem. I guarantee if I had decided to buy this even a month before, my scores would be better than they are now. Do yourself a HUGE favor, buy it. Worst case scenario is you lose $150, upside would be you get into the school of your choice and maybe a scholarship.

You won't be sorry, trust me. I'll be happy to go over any questions with you if have any regarding problems even Dr. Romano will do the same for you (and do a better job). Let me know if you need anything else.

How much time should one allot themselves to go through DAT Destroyer (including the 3 tests from DAT Achiever & 2 from Kaplan)?

I have about 9 weeks... I'll be working at the time, as well 😕

Destroyer can be done in 3 days. I would repeat this 2 or 3 times. It goes faster after the first time around.

Kaplan and DAT achiever scores usually take my entire day of studying as I do the exam and review them afterwards. I would also spend another day to just review all the exams you have taken (SNS and maybe QR).

In between those days, you should study and understand concepts. Destroyer is good at this.

You have plenty of time, just get crackin!

Thanks guys. You've made up my mind for me. I'm definitely going to get this and start using it after my kaplan class. lifeisgood, youre awesome man! where do you plan on going to school, since you pretty much have your pick?

I just wanna pipe in and agree with the majority of these posts.

the destroyer is an excellent guide to helping you finishing off your studying

it's way rad for closin up the loose ends on topics you might've felt weird about.

please dont use it to be the only guide you use.. cuz that's not what the destroyer is really meant for.

and yes.. i got my destroyer the tuesday before my saturday test...

i cruised through it in 3 days. redid the ochem and bio after talking to romano. and bam. magic.

I will probably use it as my only guide for the exam (i have allready gone through Schuam's Bio, and Kaplan for everything else)

Hey guys,

I just received Destroyer today and I am very excited to begin using it!! I was just wondering how you guys went about studying from it and what method you used. Did you just simply go through the book and circle the answers and then go back and review your results? Did you do work on the pages of the book itself or did you do them in a scrapbook so that you wont see your answers when you go through it the next time??

Any advice as to what method I should use as I study this book would be greatly appreciated! 🙂

Personally, I think the most efficient method of using the Destroyer is to try doing each question on a separate scrap sheet, and then check each answer in the solutions before you move on. That way, you will be able to review the questions over and over again, and you will understand the material better by taking each question and answer one at a time. I know that's the way we did it by his lecture - and it worked for me and everyone else in the group.

Take your time and understand everything in there - it is a DAT study guide masterpiece. Best of luck to you!!!

Thanks dude. Not really sure yet. I have a lot to think about like where I want to be after d school before I can make a sound decision. Good luck with your studying and let me know if you need help on anything. :luck: :luck: :luck:

You can easily do the destroyer in 3-4 days (maybe more if you really like to be hard core into each definition). If your like Amsie, by day 3 you would have read it about 5 times cover to cover (possibly with note cards already made) 🙂

Thanks. I should be getting Destroyer in the mail in a couple of days. Then, I'll start right away 😎
