Hey guys, I'm new to this site and I find that it holds answers to most of my doubts about medical school. It's a great site and its good work by the folks involved.

Anyways questions arise after sometime so I one lined up and i hope you guys would be able to answer it.

I'm a prospective medical student wanting to study at IMU in Malaysia. The reason I would like to go there is because they help you to transfer to the UK after 2 1/2 years. Even if I get transferred, I still have my doubts because even if I get awarded a degree from a UK university, I would find it very hard to get a job in the UK since half my degree would be from Malaysia and there would obviously be some reference to it in my certificate.

I'm not very sure about this but still do any of you guys think that it would be hard enough for me to find a job and would not be treated equally as the British students even if I get my degree awarded here i.e. the second phase please give me a shout.

I will be here.

Hey.
I think you aren't getting any responses because the majority of us here are American med students and haven't a clue about this. Have you considered the International forum?

I'm one of the IMU students who have transferred to a Partner Medical School in Canada. The diploma I will receive during my convocation would be exactly the same as the ones my classmates here would receive. It is only in my personal CV that IMU was mentioned at all. And that would be the case for students transferring onto UK medical schools after 2 1/2 years at IMU. I did not have any problems (apart from visa-related ones) when applying and interviewing in the States for residency. I have many friends in the UK who are now PRHOs, HOs and MOs in various parts of England and Scotland...so I don't think doing part of their medical school in Malaysia was detrimental to their career -- some programs even see it as a plus as you would (should) have great tropical medicine experience compared to some of your counterparts who only did med school in UK (or Canada, or US or Australia or NZ). Would be glad to help if you've got further questions! 👍

i'm a current IMU student in malaysia now about to transfer to a partner school
onlinepoet: what country are you from? you should be aware that if you are a citizen or PR of UK you may not be able to join a UK partner school after completing the preclinicals in IMU. here http://www.imu.edu.my/partnermed.htm

however what eleileen posted is right... your degree will be just the same as any other graduate of that university. any obstacle you face, if at all, will be the same as any other foreign graduates of that country which may vary from country to country.
The bottom line is IMU students are eligible for the 2 year Foundation Program (ie "internship") after graduating from a UK uni just like any other graduate.
