It's kind of vague question but
How do you know if you did good or bad at the interview?
I had 5 interviews so far but the interviews are usually very nice and kind and they talk nicely and their facial expression doesn't say much.
So how do you guys feel after the interview?

More often that not you can't tell. Sometimes you get a good vibe or the person is like i will do everything in my power to get you in (but take statements like this with a grain of salt -- its easier to say this to people than you won't get in). I am also of the mindset that really challenging or agressive interviews are good -- they are seeing what you are capable of and chances are if you interview with a forceful individual that person will be just a forceful with the committee when they represent you at the meeting.

I agree with DrTacoElf that more stressful interviews are better. But of course who wouldn't want to come out of the interview with a wink from the interviewer or a promise that they will see you at the school next year. Overall, I think that we can argue what are good and bad signs from the interviewer until the sun sets in the east, but we probably will never know who's right. I know plenty of people who got in after that so called "wink" from the interviewer as well as people who didn't get in even after the interviewer praised them for their wonderful communications skills. Bottom line, we will all have to judge for ourselves the results of our interviews come Dec. 1st.

That much said...wish everyone best of luck !

Very well spoken! Good Luck to you to!=)

thanks SOOO much for that insight. I just came back from what i thought was a disaster interview. And although I still dont feel like i was prepared enough, I dont think I bombed it as bad as I'm making it out to be. You're completely right---I can kill myself over a stupid comment, or I can just take it like a man (or woman!) and say what is done is done. At this point, its not in my hands.

Yep ! After the interview, it's out of our hands. We can only pray that the committee looks beyond our stumbling answers. We'll all find out soon enough. And if you think you did bad on an interview, don't worry I'm sure there are tons of people out there who feel they did bad on theirs too. Chin up !

The bad interiview is the only interview that you do not prepare before hand. If you have practiced some interview questions at home, had a mocking interview session with somebody you know, already organized thoughts inside your head, and prepared well, then you should be fine. People who came to interview without knowing what they are going to say, then those are the ones with bad interviews.
I have 3 interviews already and I never feel too confident about myself after each one. I thought I did alright and could have done it better. BUT I always prepared, and therefore I told to myself that I had good interviews. As long I get one letter of acceptance, I am happy.
What do you guys think?

For me, it's a 'vibe' thing. Since I cannot read the interviewers minds and/or gain immediate feedback, I base my decision on the body language of the interviewer (eye contact, etc.), tone of voice, my confidence in the answers I provided to their questions, and the like. I have had one *bad* interview thus far, and it wasn't due to a lack of preparation on my part. What made it a bad experience? Well, one of the interviewers hadn't read over my file and I found myself squandering a lot of time addressing questions to which the answer was in my file, there was a personality conflict - I felt that I didn't connect at all with them-, they asked a few questions several times (as if my answer the first time wasn't good enough for them), and both of them seemed very bored. There were a lot of other little things but I remember walking out of the room and not feeling good about the interview nor the school. I guess in December we can all learn of our performances and see if those hunches are valid.

i have the same expierence as sprgrover where the person seemed bored by the answers and they asked me to explain three times... thats when u know you had a bad expierence..

u know u have a good expierence if hte person ttalking you is getting interested in converstaion and thing leads to another

when its scriptted usually its bad

I agree, scripted answers seemed so staged. But after youve practiced what you're going to say a million times it comes out sounding "fake" or "performed." Thats what i hated about my interview. I felt like i said all the right things, but i was so "prepared" that i came off sounding like a recording. They did press me to "explain" further the same question, and at one point i falt out was like, "what are u looking for?" because I felt as if we were both talking in generalities. I def. had a bad vibe, and felt like a total schmuck, but what can i do now? At least having a bad iview experiece makes you know what CAN go wrong and you have a leg up for other interviews.

Man. This thread resonates with me. Those iterviews I had were difficult. I don't even want to think about them. I think it is true that once the interview is over; it is over in the past, other than writing thank you letters.

When I was in social work school, one of the difficult thing being a counselor was to not know what is going on - a tolerance for the unknown. Ultimately we never know what are future will be. I'm going to take this approach for the interviews I've done. Some of mine were okay, and some were not, but it's in the past and there is nothing I can do about them. The more I think about it, the less energy I have to prepare for today and tomorrow.
