While I was preparing for my Parasitology test last night,I was wondering is there any shortcut in addition to pneumonics to remember the names of parasites. How you people remember these names,by cramming or by using some other method?
Also tell me is it better to study from Big Robbins or use some short book, I mean would I be able to retain material present in Robbins till my exam.

No one can retain all that is in Robbins. No one. One great book for all things microscopic is this one:

We don't. A week after the exam, you won't remember them either (Don't worry; they'll return to memory in your clinical years, but don't ask me how.)

One minor pet peeve, if I may:

Mnemonics not pneumonics. There isn't any air involved.

Good luck; you'll do great!😉

CLINICAL MICROBIOLOGY MADE RIDICULOUSLY SIMPLE!!!!

that is all

I had to come up with my own mnemonics for memorizing the helminths - I found it's only the mnemonics/memory aids that you truly understand and like that will prove helpful.

Thanks everybody for your replies.I think the more I will go through the names, the more it would be easier for me to remember. At first time it was quite difficult for me to pronounce the names.

Ah, that's one of the reasons I minored in Latin during undergrad. It really made memorizing terms (anatomy, micro, etc.) much easier when I could easily pronounce/spell them.

No joke!

I like the idea seriously, because a lot of my time is wasted in just pronouncing and remembering the spellings of the Latin words. It's a very intelligent decision to take Latin courses. But in my country it's not possible where such language courses are rarely available 🙁

ridiculously(sp) simple was a good book. I drew the charts repeatedly for viruses/bacteria till I could do it from scratch. Parasites is easier cuz there's fewer of them and they group up nicely.
