It's different every year...probably curved based on what the average is (I don't think they disclose exactly how). In the latest conversion chart I have seen, you need to get about 60% for anatomy and micro, slightly higher for biochem, and around 70% for dental anatomy. Those figures are from memory...but they are in the ballpark.

Thanks a lot rsg,

really i feel a lot better after seeing the score conversion chart.

Just remember the conversion is different all the time...if everyone does really well on the test around the time you take it, the scale could be higher.
I am just hoping a bunch of idiots took it when I did....but I wouldn't bet on it.

thanks for the info rsg but i was wondering about the time of test taking, does the score vary at different times of the year?i really didnt know that.

good luck for the exam

the score conversion is from 1998, i'm guessing the curve is higher these days. 1998 is nearly 10 years ago, also the competitiveness of dental students has obviously increased in the past years.

with that in mind, anyone have a more recent score conversion pdf file?

It might be a bit higher--I'll let you know about the difficulty of different sections vs. my scores when I get them. I haven't seen or heard of a more recent score conversion.

I have been taking all the released exams since 79 to present and my avg. is always in the 70. (70 right out of 100). I was wondering if anyone who has taken the exam is your performance on released exams indicative of how you will do on the NBDE part 1.

I also noticed from taken released exams that as the years go by that they don't repeat a lot of questions but the same concepts are repeated. I say this because if you know the 79 answer you can most likely answer the 97 exam on the same topic if you fully understand the 79 concept.

when i did the released exams i would score the same the same too i.e. around 70. I scored 88 in the actual exam but i think it really depends on your exam day. I had my anatomy paper really difficult. It compared in noway to the released papers difficulty level. So i guess you cannot compare it this way. Instead my advice would be to use the released papers just as a guidance about which topics they are concentrating more on. good luck

If so you scored on avg ~70/100 on the old exams and recieved an 88 score on the boards, that means that the 1998 score conversion is consistant.

Because a 70% on the 1998 score conversion would give you ~88 on the exam.

hi~
where is EVERYONE getting these '79, '99, etc released part I from??? from what yr is the latest one? please advice.

Does anyone actually score better than the 70's on the past exams? Am I the only one that finds it impossible to score 80+ on the past exams? Some questions are of a ridiculous difficultly. I hope they cut down on some of these questions cause if they don't i'm gonna be in trouble. Either that or they better curve the marks accordingly.

so there is a curve on the NBDE Part I?? Damn, all this time I thought that I was getting really low scores on my released papers! I was gettig like 70-75 on average! I was thinking that I was never gonna score at least a 85!! 😀 Glad I read this thread!

AC

ps. I'm still gonna study my ass off though! 🙂
