About shadowing

I've been shadowing at a local dentist's office in past a month. I am going to keep doing this until I go back to my school. I calculated and I would get about 140 hours.
She is just a general dentist and what I've been doing and will be doing would be holding the suction tip and things that a nurse would do.
I've been reading about people's shadowing experiences and some people worked for radiologist and some kinds of specialists.
Do I need to find another speicialist to shadow for? or is it okay to just shadow at a local general dentist's office?

hey archonsbk, it's great to shadow a gp. some schools specifically ask your dentist letter of rec to be from a general practitioner

I think you mean dental assistant, not nurse.

You can shadow other dental specialists. This may give you an insight into the specialties available in the dental field.

You could shadow a radiologist if you're interested in medicine.

I was actually thinking shadowing a radiologist could be useful for pre-dents as well.

I job shadowed in different practices to just get a feel for how different general dentists work, treat patients, run their practices. I found it to be a nice experience.
If you can, try that 🙂

Job shadowing specialist can be fun, I really enjoyed shadowing oral surgeons and orthodontist. 😀

A general dentist is fine and could lead to a good LOR. But, consider other general dentists or specialties only if you want to see how other offices run. But if you feel at home at your office, by all means stay there!

Also, consider public health setting maybe (hospital...). You'll see much crazier stuff because the people coming in there are in real pain and discomfort!
