what do people know about these programs?

UTSW/St. Paul
UT RAHC

Cedar Sinai (CA) - is this a reputable/competitive program? How would people rank the UCLA affiliated programs(Harbor>Cedars>Olive>VA=Kaiser?)

UCD: seems like a decent academic program but the isolated location at Davis/Sacramento leaves a lot to be desired. Is it competitive compared to other CA academic programs that are in much better location.

UCSF/Fresno: is its less favorable reputation only because of its location?

Thanks.

UTSW is a strong academic program...probably the strongest in the state of TX. The interview process is pretty impersonal...which reflects the size of the program. I think good opportunities are afforded there...

UT- RAHC was just going on line when I graduated from med school. The upsides are that you are treated well by the people in the Rio Grande valley...which is starved for docs. The pathology is fantastic...as long as you don't mind being bombarded with diabetes and the metabolic syndrome all the time. The down side is that most of your patients indigent and a lot of social injustice and hipocracy prevails in the border towns...making it hard to manage chronic diseases. The unemployement rates on the border are startling. Not to mention that Cameron County has a glut of lawyers (mostly from 3rd and 4th tier law schools) as well as a high incidence of malpractice case filings.
