Hey Everyone,

I'm a UNC student residing in North Carolina and I have a 3.56 GPA with a 3.45 Science GPA. I have an MCAT of 29. My extracurriculars are def. very competitive. What do you guys think of this list of schools? Should I mark off any or add any to this list?

Thank You!

Do you have any ties to WV or KY? I know that schools in those 2 states expect you to have either ties to the state or extremely high stats.

No ties to either state. I was thinking of removing Louisville, but West Virginia looked like they accepted 40% out of state.

If you've got the cash, go for it. If you're narrowing down your list to save cash, I would skip them since no ties will probably hurt your chances.

Thanks for the response! What do you think of the rest of the list of schools/any suggestions of other ones I could add?

Hard to say for sure, but the list looks pretty good. One piece of advice I'll give is this: when applying with less than stellar stats its tempting to load your list with schools that are within your range, in order to guarantee an acceptance somewhere, but be mindful about where you apply. For every school on your list, you should be willing to attend there if it were the only school you were accepted to. As long as that's true, then you should be good to go.

By the way, maybe I'll see you on campus 🙂

Most applicants with your stats were rejected from USC Columbia and Greenville even being an instate applicant. Those might be a reach...

Thanks for the responses everyone!

Tarheel - I def. considered that factor, all the schools I picked were on the East Coast, which is where I want to stay for sure. Honestly, my #1 choice is ECU. I hope I have a shot there.

In general, I'm thinking of applying to DO schools as well. Do you think I'll be more competitive with DO applications than MD?
