I've been hearing that Tufts SDM is one of the better dental schools out there. However, why are their average GPAs and DAT scores lower than most "good" schools?

I wouldn't classify Tufts as one of the better dental schools. It's your run of the mill private school that will cost you over $500k to attend all said and done. Expensive private schools (outside of the ivy leagues) have lower GPA and DAT averages across the board because the majority of the most competitive students get into cheaper programs which are much tougher to get an acceptance to

That makes more sense. Would you still consider Tufts a good dental school though?

Where are you hearing it’s one of the better schools?

I live in the Boston area, and there are a lot of people that praise Tufts as a great medical/dental school.

I would agree with tufts being better for pre doc vs BU. Residency wise... I wouldn’t choose either. Also Tom Brady cheats. Celtics suck.

In my opinion, a dental school is a dental school. You get out of a school what you put in, go to the cheapest you get into!

It’s a school that gives you a DDS so!it’s not better or worst with regards to what you get out of it.

The price on the other hand is another story. No dental school is worth over 500k a year In tuition.

Doesn't sound like you're a fan of boston LOL

The best school is always the cheapest one you get into.

I’m a current student here. I’m also a MA native so the school has always been on my radar. I came here since my two other New England schools waitlisted me.

Fortunately I’m here on the navy scholarship. I have my own list of gripes with the school and how they handle things, particularly how they do admissions and preclinic, I could go on for days.

Tufts does have a very strong academic reputation in New England, especially since the Undergrad is a little ivy (NESCAC if you know...)

I’m making the best of what I have here and Im over the fact I could be at P/F school not worrying about gunning and ranks. Im graduating with zero loans....

....

Interested in hearing your clinic gripes, though you aren't yet a provider if I remember right...

my cousin went here so I know a lil bit. also with the way grading goes on in preclin and how professors pick favorites and how certain people always get away with stuff, i know it just carries on to downstairs..... I've already seen a lot of that this past year in operative.

*i should have written pre clinic in there*

Yeah, there's politics and favorites at every school, but I can say it gets better downstairs IMO. Working with real patients is so much better than plastic, in multiple ways.
