There were some really good posts about UMDNJ. Not many people talk about this school even thought it is really good. I just wanted to know from any of the people who either got in or recently applied, how long did it take to get an interview after they recieved your secondary? Do they wait on MCAT scores to interview if you just took them in August? Thanx for any comments.🙂

Like you said, SOM is a great school. Yes, they will be waiting for the MCAT to interview you. if you receive an interview here; you have about 60-70% chance of getting in. Good luck!!!

SOM is definitely underrated.

I love it here! They have some pretty state of the art stuff here, and the people here are very friendly. (Just an indication- I went to sign up to give tours to prospective c/o 2008'ers and the sign up sheet was full for the next two months)- people have a lot of good stuff to say about us.

If you have any questions at all, feel free to respond. We're in exam block right now, but I'll get back to you ASAP.

I had my UMDNJ interview last wed and they called me already today to tell me about my acceptance... so they are really quick! I got my interview invite about 3-4 weeks after my secondary went in. I loved the school so much and Im going to send my deposit in ASAP!!
Good luck!

Deposit. I didn't know that UMDNJ had a deposit. How much is it.
Thanks,
Keith

Congrats! I hope I get in there with you. Good Luck!
UMDNJ-- a good school and they work fast.

Keith,
The deposit is 100$ and the letter says its due in Dec but Im going to send it in this week.

Good luck EReze and Abraham... hope to see you both next year!!

Thanks Dotune. Congratulations on your acceptance. I interview on Oct. 22nd. I hope I hear back from the school as fast as you did. I'm just curious, did they give you any information on the percentage of interviewees to acceptances. Also, did they provide a match list of the previous graduating class with the information that they give us at the interview. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Buddy,
Keith

congrats, DOtune!

any tips for the interview? what kind of questions did they ask you? i have an interview coming up in october, so just wondering how i can best prepare.

also, what are your stats? any other tips or tidbits?

What type of questions do they ask? My interview is in less than two weeks (Oct. 3rd). I am also hoping to receive an acceptance immediately so I can eliminate my travels to others schools lower on my list.

That's great

The interview was extremely laid back... the tour was very nice and informative as well.
As for questions asked... just your typical "Why D.O.", Why UMDNJ-SOM... tell us about your hobbies outside of school... what are 3 traits that make a good versus a great doc... what type of medicine do you seing yourself in 10 yrs from now?

And more questions that stem from conversation. Really it was extremely laid back and fun! Just re-read your personal statement and develop a good argument for why you want a DO school versus MD (they ask you if you applied to any MD schools as well and what is your 1st choice) and look at their website for their mission statement and any other qualities you like about UMDNJ.
The head of admissions greeted us and said that almost no one gets rejected if they get interviewed.. usually just wait-listed or accepted b/c they are very selective about their interviewees.. some student told my abut 60% get in after an interview.
So good luck, relax and congrats on the interview invite!!

Let me know if you have anymore questions!

DOtune .. did you apply to MD schools as well? I actually applied to a lot of MD schools . I hope they don't hold that against me. Also, I shadowed a DO, but he worked in the ER .. so there wasn't much practice of "holistic medicine," etc .. all those buzz words that are associated with osteopathic medicine. So all I'd know about osteopathic medicine is what I've read about .. do you think that'd be ok?

I am actually from Texas but I am interested in the DO/JD degree plan. How hard is it for out-of-staters to get accepted?

sandisk-- i didnt apply to any MD schools.. only PCOM and UMDNJ-SOM b/c I wanted to go DO, but there are plenty of people at my interview that did, and they said most students do apply MD as well mostly because of the numerous MD programs- so no I dont think that would be held against you but be prepared to know a lot about osteopathic medicine and the characteristics that you possess that would make you a good DO.

Tex-premed-- Mostly 85 to 90% are instate I believe but they look very favorably towards their combined degrees (they really push for them) and if you stats are good, i blieve you'd have a great chance... Good luck!

UMDNJ is a great school. I went there yesterday just to visit and everyone is friendly and nice. Not even because they have to be... they just are. The Dean of admissions knows all the students by name and greets everyone he sees. The students don't look like zombies.. they actually look happy. The overall look and feel of the campus is totally relaxing. They just built a new building and are currently remodling another. I got to see their practice labs where they teach students how to do patient assessment. Its in South Jersey so it isn't as busy and city-like as Northern Jersey (where I'm from) but everything is accessible--- plus rent is cheaper in that area. I know I'm ranting, but this info may be of help to someone curious about the general surroundings.. 😛

Hey, everyone, I interviewed at UMDNJ yesterday. Like DOtune said, it was very laid back and conversational. No stress at all. However, it is so laid back, it's kinda hard to judge how it went. I can't imagine it went poorly, it seemed really good and i was very comfortable and I was prepared for every questions, but if everyone is comfortable and laid back and does well in the interview, you have to question how important is the interview? It seemed to me that it would be very hard to make an outstanding impression that would get you in...it's almost as though they know if they want you before hand, and the interview is just to make sure you aren't crazy and that you are who you say you are. It seemed that the interview could only possibly hurt, not help. So, I am left hanging until oct 20th when the admissions committee meets again! It is going to be a long 24 days. It is my top choice and all I can do is pray everyday that I get in! Good luck to everyone else!!!

Hey Mike,

My interview comes up on oct 21st at UMDNJ-SOM and I just want to know how many prospective student interviewed with you. Is it posible to stay with a current student for just one day?

Thanks

--dokita.

Hey Dokita,
there were 5 of us who interviewed on the 25th. And I am sure yo ucould stay with a current student. All of the students there were very friendly and i am sure they would be willing to help out!

UMDNJ is a great school. Apply and you will be a good doctor.

This forum does not allow any thing negative from me. Not sure. Maybe only good people can post. Other A** like me will go to hell.

Congrats, DOtune! What did you, and everyone else who interviewed think of the facilities? Sounds like the interviews went well for everyone. I'm looking forward to mine, if they so choose to grant me one. Didn't realize it was so in-state oriented though. Guess my California status won't help me. I should have run for governor here instead

Can I run for CA governor there?? Are there any freedom in CA or it belongs to Pakistan.

Riiight - lealf-ye. You need to get over yourself. Can these forums return back to normal already?? 🙄

Mikey27,
