Hey everyone,
I am a newly starting PGY-1 prelim in Internal Medicine and will be starting PM&R next July. Does anyone know if there are certain requirements for rotations in your prelim year? I contacted my program and they said no, but just wanted to double check. Thanks in advance

If I'm not mistaken, the only requirement is that you do a pre-lim year. Some PM&R programs seem to have specific requirements (such as at least six months of medicine, surgery, peds, or EM), but usually the only people that really need to pay attention to that would be those in transitional year programs with a lot of electives.

The only thing I know you can't have is more than 4 weeks of official PM&R elective time. Other than that it seems as though it is program specific.

Yes, ABPMR does have particular requirements. From their 2015 Certification documentation

http://www.abpmr.org/boi/cert_boi.pdf

"Residency Training
Physicians must successfully complete 48 months (four years) of training in a PM&R residency accredited by the ACGME or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC). This training must be completed after graduation from medical school.

Twelve of the 48 months must consist of a coordinated program of experience in fundamental clinical skills such as an accredited transitional
year, or include six months or more in accredited training in emergency medicine, family practice, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology,
pediatrics, or surgery, or any combination of these patient care experiences. The remaining months of this year may include any combination of
accredited specialties or subspecialties"
