Has anyone else had problems with the ABPN? I was just charged twice for the $1350 oral boards fee, which set into motion a number of other annoyances - my bank account went into negative numbers, and before I could correct it, charges I made later were pushed into overdraft, costing me an $140 in overdraft fees. When I called to complain and ask for the additional $1350 to be refunded, plus the overdraft charges, they were very unapologetic, told me I must have done something wrong when paying the fee, and that I will not likely get my money refunded for a week (and may not get the overdrafts refunded). ARRGH! All this for the privilege of flying to a city I'm not interested in visiting to take an oral board that will not be necessary in a year.

Just don't let it affect you on the day of the test.

Agree.

Also throw in when I took the exam, I could've left for a flight right after my exam had they told me when my actual exam was. They don't tell you the specific time. Instead they tell you it can happen over the course of the entire block of time. That in effect kept me trapped in the hotel waiting for the next flight out that wasn't for a few days.

The hotel only had a few channels. I ended up watching I am Legend perhaps 5 times because nothing else was on, paying $30 a meal, and not having anything to do because right outside the hotel it was all state buildings that were closed.

I wasn't happy with the exam either. The guy I interviewed basically just sat there and hardly said anything that appeared volitional because I didn't see any negative signs of psychosis and the few times he did speak, he would only mention that he hoped I was going to fail the exam. I definitely felt this was not a fair exam since I'm sure most people at least get someone willing to talk to them about their symptoms.

They got you by the eight balls. Best way to handle this is to merely accept it for now and pass.

Suck it up and do it.
There are a lot of frustrating things that occur around this exam but once its over, its over...for 10 years.

I thought the oral was a one time deal and the other portion was every 10 years. This is especially confusing because I'll be of the crop of residents that takes the oral in-house.

I'll suck it up; it just makes me angry that they think nothing of pulling an extra $1350 out of my account by accident without acknowledging they were in error.

You can talk to any psychiatrist who is board certified. They have all experienced or know someone who has experienced the idiocy of the board or the actual exam.

Think of it like this. Not having this happen would make you wierd and maybe you get all the bad juju out of the way now.

Maybe it's like hazing before I can join their club.
