Does anyone know about the new update on the ABS 3-residency limitation rule? Have been to 3 residencies, and still need to complete general surgery residency, please help.

What do you want to know about it?

The board is pretty clear about it that to be board eligible you must complete:

"Sixty months of residency training at no more
than three residency programs. This limit
applies regardless of whether an applicant com-
pleted clinical years as a non-designated prelim-
inary or categorical resident."

"Applicants who completed their training at more than three
programs will be required to repeat one or more
years of training to comply with this limit. "

Here is the entire document (the above is on page 12): http://home.absurgery.org/xfer/BookletofInfo-Surgery.pdf

Thanks Winged Scapula,
I was told there is a September 2008 modification to this rule, which said something like, "you have to do additional years if graduating from more than 3 residencies"
Thanks for the link. Do you think there is any way one could do a 4th program and repeat years to satisfy this requirement?

Yes, please read the second paragraph in my response above.

You're the man!

To Winged scapula,
I apologize calling you a man, i didn't mean it literaly. I'm new to the forum.

No apologies necessary; it happens fairly frequently.

If you are unsure, some users, including myself, give such info on our profile pages (which you can access by clicking on a user name).
