I been trying to find a definitive answer to this question, are most water absorbed in the small intestine? it makes sense since most food/sugar molecule is absorbed in small intestine and due to gradient formation water will follow suite right? I read somewhere it was large intestine but I dont know...

the latter is correct, the main function of the large intestine is to absorb water. i'm not sure if zero water is absorbed in the small intestine as you mentioned, but the large intestine definitely functions in the absorption of water.

most water absorption occurs in the small intestine. some water absorption occurs in the large intestine too, but it is a smaller amount than what is absorbed in the small intestine.

i think this has been addressed before. most of what is absorbed in the large intestine is water. however, the small intestine actually absorbs more water than the large intestine

So if on a test question they ask, where does the majority of water absorbed at? answer is small?

but if they say what is the primary function of large intestine? then it'll also be water? this is confusing I read more places that says most water is absorbed in the small intestine though.

yeah, that's how I understand it

It's not too complicated. Most water is absorbed in the small intestine, and that's a fact. The colon has a couple functions. One is to absorb some leftover water that wasn't absorbed in the small intestine. Another is to form fecal matter. The other is to house bacteria that metabolize undigested food.

thanks

never said it was complicated just there were a few replies about large intestine absorbing most water or at least the way i understood it😱
