I was wondering if there is any specific advise as to how to cite an abstract for an update, since it isn't published anywhere yet, but was accepted to be presented at a conference.

I have a few I'd like to update with, one of which I'm first author on -- would I just list the abstract titles and my author position, or should I also provide context of the research?

You dont need to cite it. Just explain youre presenting an abstract/poster on your research and tell whay conference you're presenting at. Also try to include more in the update besides just that.

I know a lot of people on here are against updates but ive had a few schools tell us to send updates whether its a new position, a promotion, more research accomplishments, etc. just to show we're still interested and still continuing to pursue stuff so i think for some places it isnt a waste of time. There were also some that were the opposite and didnt want to hear anything at all unless it was as significant as a new journal publication. So depending on the school i think it can help if it's significant enough.
