Abuse in an Obstacles Faced Essay?

How do you write an overcoming obstacle essay?

Don't write about Abuse.
Example: I suffered a lot of beating and torture weekly as a child resulting in years of severe depression, loneliness, low self esteem, etc that took many more years for me to claw of. Some aspects of the abuse remains permanent yet I still fight it daily and silently.
TRUST ME. NO ONE WANTS TO HEAR IT. Not in real life nor in applications. PERSONAL obstacles are things you overcome and keep to yourself.
So therefore, the obstacle essay is more about SOCIETAL obstacles you've overcome. Economic disadvantage, minority, and other like that.
So an obstacle essay isn't truly about your OWN REAL obstacles. There's a huge aspect of political correctness to it.
