I am an M4 who took a late STEP I last year so I am a bit off cycle, everything else has gone well for me (average STEP I, average shelf scores, high pass clerkships, on track to apply to residency Sept 15). In a routine 'checking in with the deans who will eventually be writing my dean's letter' meeting, it came out that the july date I have for CS, which I attempted to confirm is a good idea with their office and others months in advance, is not valid for my situation due to school policies on off-cycle students.

My appeal to the academic affairs committee was denied and I am forced to take CS in August or early September.

I've had the scheduling alerts on for a week now with zero email notifications received. There are no dates until December. Am I screwed? Is everything I've planned so meticulously all for naught? Should I chill out and keep waiting for the emails or should I begin to plan for the worst case scenario of not finding a test date?

Appreciate all advice given in advance

What's the big deal about taking it in December? Scores should be out before the rank lists are due, right? I took it in February of MS4. I wouldn't recommend that and some specialties might want to see a passing step 2 before ranking you...

School has a mandatory policy for fourth year students to take CS by Sept 15

Have you tried Check4Change? Google it if you haven't, but it can be really useful in finding a spot--certainly better than waiting for an email.

Thank you 🙂 I found a date in three hours of looking through the month of August (after missing the first that opened up 😛 )!
