Hello,
I recently discovered that there was mistake on the AMCAS application that was processed. For one of my AP classes they marked "Exempt (EX)" as the grade and I got no credit for it at all. So, I am going to submit an Academic Change request. Will that influence my application process in anyway? I mean, will it slow down anything? THankss.

i had to submit an academic change request due to their error in converting some of my grades. i thought it would be a big hassel, but i was pleasantly surprised that it did not take long for the change to be made. i believe it took approximately a week for amcas to notify me that they fixed the error and that my gpa had been re-calculated (this was mid-june of last year).

note - i think you have 2 weeks from the submission date to do an academic change request.

But that wouldn't slow my application, correct?

well, it would delay your AMCAS application for a week (or maybe two), but in the grand scheme of things, that's not the end of the world. if you are that worried about it, you could begin prepping your secondaries now (i.e. some schools have their secondaries posted on the web for all to see and those websites can be found on SDN). but honestly, your application being processed by july 5th over july 15th won't make that big of a difference. just try to have a quick turn-around once you receive your secondaries.

An academic change request does not really delay your application. After AMCAS verifies your application, they send it to medical schools REGARDLESS of whether or not you submit a verification. So, suppose there was a huge error, like they didn't calculate a GPA...the application would get transmitted to medical schools as is. If you submit an academic change request, and it is granted, your application is updated and re-transmitted to medical schools. Some schools read applications online, so they will see the updated version automatically. Others print out the application, so they won't realize it is updated unless you tell them. It will likely take a week to a week and a half as they get busy (I submitted one on the 27th of June, it was approved on the 5th of July).
