Can anyone speak to the schedule of a diagnostic radiologist at an academic institution with research and education responsibilities? How many hours a day are they looking at scans vs. performing other academic responsibilities?

Can anyone speak to the schedule of a diagnostic radiologist at an academic institution with research and education responsibilities? How many hours a day are they looking at scans vs. performing other academic responsibilities?

That's highly variable even within the same department or section.

-Some attendings stay in the reading room all day (when clinical) and only do non-clinical stuff on their administrative/academic days.
-Some attendings will staff out 1-2 people in the morning and disappear for a few hours to get work on stuff and/or get coffee. Then come back in the afternoon and do another round of staff-out.
