During my sophomore year of college I stopped attending class in the middle of the semester for medical reasons. I did not fill out the proper medical withdrawal forms. I received a 0 gpa for the semester and learned via email that summer that I had been academically dismissed from the institution (despite ever even being put on academic probation prior). You have to have below a 2.0 to go on academic probation. I had much higher than that even with the 0 calculated. The president of the college cited "quality points" as the reason. I wasn't returning the following semester because of the medical concerns so I did not fight the issue at the time.
I later returned to my home university and completed my degree. They required my medical documentation for re-admission but have refused to fix the "academic dismissal" on my transcript. Their argument is that I should have filled out the paperwork initially and too much time has passed to fix the error on my transcript. How do I explain this during my med school applications?
