I was accused of an academic integrity violation by cheating on a test. I contested the charge but was found guilty anyway. I know that this is a negative impact on my record but it was only one time and I believe I have learned from this event. Would this be enough to make me ineligible for MD school or are my chances too low anyway. I have a 3.6 GPA if that helps.

Can you expand on what happened? (Blatant outright cheating or a technicality?) What made you think you could win? If you couldn't convince your dean that you didn't cheat, can you convince the adcoms?

I was accused of looking at another student's test. I was not actually looking and did not take any information from the student. The teacher said that I should answer honestly and contest the charge if I did not really do it, so that is what I did. Unfortunately, the review said that the evidence was enough and since the punishment was retaking the test with no score higher than the original, it suited the accusation. I received an A on the test and in the course. Would med schools see the details as I though they only saw the charge of academic violation.

is this a crosspost? I swear I've already read this somewhere

this is a big no-no and will greatly lower your chances of a US MD acceptance... One of my interview ethical scenarios was about seeing someone cheat on a test and how I would handle it (I of course said I would narc). He then went on this rant about how cheating is a major character flaw which often reappears later down the road in the form of over-billing or scamming elderly (to name a few). Maybe his opinion, or an opinion held by many... He was my adcom interview.

If you are able to show remorse and reflect on it (to become a better person), that might absolve you in the eyes of the adcom.
