Is it critical to have gone to a big-name medical school to be successful in research or academic medicine? Is it possible/are there examples of individuals who have gone to lesser-ranked schools who have become well-known academics? I'm not going to a "name" school, so should i give up on a career in academic medicine?

Hi

While going to a "top" academic center is certainly an advantage, what you *publish* is what counts the most. You should not give up your choice, on the contrary, you have to make an extra effort to find an excellent mentor who is also well-published. That will get you some publications and connections.

good luck
