Hey guys,

So I am a re-applicant here! Last year, some of my secondaries included questions like "Do you have any academic unevenness as a part of your profile?"

I wasn't really sure how to answer this question; that is where I need your opinion. My first semester of freshman year, I had a 3.7 GPA. My second semester was (relatively) horrible with a 3.0 GPA. By calculating the GPA of my sophomore, junior, and senior years only (and omitting my freshman yea), I have a 3.95 GPA, bringing my overall GPA to a 3.8.

Would you consider this academic unevenness, or just a bad semester??? -Any advice would be great!

That's just a bad semester since the overall GPA is still 3.8. Just have an explanation of why you did so poorly in the 2nd semester of freshman year. THe good thing is is that it happened in your freshman year which most chalk up to an adjustment period to college. Regardless, you're fine. I wouldn't sweat it.

Thank you! I was working full-time to support my family at the time as my mother was unable to work due to an illness, so I have a pretty good reason as to why it occurred if an admin member ever brought it up.

Yes, this is "uneveness" and it's really, really common. Don't sweat it. Rising GPA trends are always good, and we like come-from-behind stories.

@Goro I now have taken the MCAT twice. I scored 498 in July of 2017, and 507 in June of 2018. Would this be considered academic unevenness also, and something I should address on secondaries when asked the "academic unevenness" question? I am from Georgia, where Mercer and MCG are very in-state friendly with requirements in my stat range if that provides any context.

No. Academic unevenness means a 3.8 in one semester (or year) followed by a 2.8, followed by a 3.3 then a 3.7.

Think of it as any blips in your academic progress.

Me too!
(I’m sorry. I can’t help it. It’s the ortho gene)
