Are academic updates super beneficial? It's so late in the cycle (mid Nov) would it increase chances of interviews by a lot if your gpa goes up by a lot?

Generally updates won't boost your GPA that much but it'll always be helpful to show that your grades are still high. Academic updates don't hurt unless you did poorly.
