Academic Update

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm pretty sure it's not required, someone correct me if I'm wrong. But wouldn't you want the schools to know you're continuing to try to improve your application? IMO it shows you're serious about pursuing dentistry. Particularly if you're getting A's and B's, I can't think of any good reason to not use Academic Update.

Do you mind my asking which schools handed out rejections, and how they did so? I applied to 10 schools and haven't heard a peep (app complete in mid-September).

Hi Everyone,

Congrats to you all who have recieved acceptances! 🙂 You deserve it!

I'm a current applicant as well but have not had any interviews thusfar, :xf: for post-Dec. My reason for making this thread is because I wanted a general idea of what you all think about the academic update. I am currently doing an informal post-bacc and was wondering whether it is REQUIRED to do the academic update and do you think it would be to my benefit to do this update? I know there is not cut and dry answer but if you can all give me some advice and lead me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.

I also had one other question that I would appreciate being answered based on experience. When do post-Dec interviews start rolling in? I applied to 26 schools and have been flat-out rejected by 9 so far. I am really hoping for positive results.

Thank you for your input and best of luck to you all!!!

I would definitely send an academic update - if your doing well or doing better than you were doing before. Upward trend is what schools always want to see and especially if you enrolled in courses they want to see if you are out of school that you are still keeping your mind in the education game - staying sharp so to speak. I'm in a similar position grades wise, and i will definitely be turning in the academic update. Though if your grades are not consistently good this semester - thats something to consider...

limon, NYU sent me a rejection via mail yesterday. everything was completed by the 9/9 mailing date for me.

at this point, it seems like everyone from nyu is receiving status updates via snail mail (acceptance, rejection, waitlist)

Guess I'll be haunting the mailbox for the next week 🙁

Omg I will totally die if i get an NYU rejection that's one of the places I've really been crossing my fingers for!!!! I love their curriciulum, their school and location!

I have been rejected from the following: UCSF, ASDOH, UPenn, UNLV, Case, WVU, and both Midwestern's.

Thank you for the reply everyone I was thinking the same thing in terms of academic update so I think I will go ahead and do that. I guess the only thing that had me worried was what if you submit an academic update now and it positively impacts your GPA but you still get rejected? Then the schools will have already seen your improvement and still rejected you so won't that mean they will likely do the same next year?

tell me about it dude. oh well, i like BU more than NYU anyway. now if i get rejected from them, it would suck BIG TIME.

and w/ regards to the update..worst comes to worst, you beef up your app and do well the following semester for next cycle. the admissions is a crapshoot, i.m.o.
