Hello SDN,

I was wondering whether an academic or community setting would help me learn the most and what the main difference might be. I have searched the web and the forums and have not found a satisfying results for internal medicine. I've seen more threads for radiology and dermatology.

Lastly, on frieda and doximity, how can we tell if the hospital is academic or not? Is it just based on whether the residency is linked to an university?

My googlefu is weak, if anyone knows of a thread that can address my question, could you kindly send me the link.

Usually you'll learn more at a university hospital that is a tertiary or quaternary care facility that essentially accepts difficult or complicated patients from these community hospitals but also has a strong ED that sees (and admits) a diverse patient population

The easiest way to tell is that the residency program is the main university program. Frieda and doximity won't give you accurate answers. For instance on Frieda a lot of community programs that are loosely affiliated with an academic hospital may be listed as a university hospital.
