I was curious regarding the actual discrepancy between private anesthesiologists' incomes and salaries in academia, specifically for the North East.
From what I understand national salaries for instructors are around $166,000, with assistant, associate and full professors earning around $196, $225, 247 respectively (see below link).

I assume starting private salaries are around 250K + with increments to partnership thereafter, depending on sub-speciality.
Is this accurate? I enjoy research and would like to pursue anesthesia in an academic setting, but with the caveat of lifestyle and family choices.
What is the consensus particularly regarding pain vs. general vs. crit care?
