The AAFP has created a series of video vignettes as part of a viral campaign designed to promote the role of family medicine in today's health care system to a global audience.

The five videos are available on the video-sharing Web site YouTube, as well as on a number of online news outlets and weblogs that focus on health care.

"The purpose of this campaign is to have a timely, yet lasting, presence across the World Wide Web that will help educate key audiences about the role and value of family medicine so they understand who family physicians are, what they do and how they fit into the larger health care picture," says Sarah Thomas, director of the AAFP Communications Division.

Maybe they should've showed an FP shooting a bottle rocket out of his butt.

tell that to the aafp.

maybe they should hire Don LaFontaine and make a trailer. Geiko did it.

[in best Don's voice]
"In a woooooooorld................. where everyone chits on family practitioners, who are already outnumbered 29:1 on the insurance reimbursement boards.........."

tell that to the aafp.

Maybe the AAFP should make a video comparing the education and roles of a medically trained GP/Family Physician... and DNPs and NDs.

By the way.. it looks like the Naturopaths want in on the Family Physician buisness as well. They are pushing for PCP rights in states across the country. Referring to themselves as "Physicians", referring ND school as "medical school", creating residencies, board certification, etc.

What Is A Naturopathic Doctor?http://www.hopewellmedicine.com/naturopathic.php

Naturopathic doctors (ND) are taught at four-year, graduate-level, accredited medical schools, where they are trained as primary care providers. Naturopathic doctors receive similar basic education in the diagnostic and clinical sciences as medical doctors (MD), with additional training in a wide spectrum of scientifically-based natural therapies. Naturopathic doctors are specialists in the prevention of disease, and in optimizing wellness. Naturopathic doctors diagnose by taking thorough histories, by performing physical exams, and by laboratory testing. Patient education and lifestyle counseling form the foundation of naturopathic medical practice.

Health care is such a market...

If "NDs" claim to have their own identity, then why are they modelling their profession on the medical model? It is so opportunistic.

It looks like they are trying follow in the footsteps of the Osteopaths. Just like they achieved equivalency with MDs in the US in the 1960s. NDs seem to want this to happen for Naturopathy (hmm.. sorry, I mean Naturopathic Physicians).

I wouldn't be surprised if they started lobbying the WHO/Faimer to be listed as medical schools.. and started to create their own plastic surgery, Derm, Optho, Rads residencies too. (I wouldn't put it past them)
