Hi,

are there any accelerated programs for Medicine in Australia for students who already have an undergraduate degree? i know most programs in Australia are 5-6 year and students go in straight from High school.

I'm an undergrad student in the US currently and looking at my options in Australia and rest of the world

thanks

A lot of the schools in Australia have 4-year graduate programs, just like you see in the US. Queensland, Sydney, Flinders, Melbourne, Wollongong, and Monash (and maybe a couple of others that I can't think of off the top of my head) all accept international students for their 4-year programs.

Don't forget ANU in Canberra. You can apply directly to Flinders, UQ, Melbourne, and ANU, Wollongong through Australearn and the others through ACER. Important to note: Melbourne won't be receiving new students next year due to the change in program from 4.5 years MBBS to 4 year MD.

The MBBS to MD change doesn't mean anything though. Even if you graduate with an 4 year graduate entry MBBS from any other Australian school, when you get your US license.. every US state medical board allows you to use the title "MD" anyways if you so wish. (just pointing that out because it shouldn't be a reason for north american's to choose Melbourne over any other Australian medical program). 👍

Don't forget Griffith, Notre Dame, Deakin, and Monash now all have 4 year grad entry programs as well.

Also, UWA (western australia) has a 4.5 year grad entry option as does Bond University.

Griffith, ND, and Deakin didn't accept international students last year, so I doubt that they'll accept any next year.

Melbourne's 4-yr program doesn't change anything, but there still won't be any incoming class for 2010.

I thought that Bond's 4.5 year program was an accelerated undergrad program?

Deakin told me they will be accepting international students for the 2010 commencing class.

Well... it might be worth contacting Griffith, ND, and Deakin and asking at least. They are all relativly new programs and may change this policy in the future to admit a handful of internationals. Never know.

Regarding Bond.. that's true, but they also admit internationals as well as grad entry. So, just pointing out that it is still an option.. and at 4.5 years isn't any different than say going to UWA for their 4.5 year grad entry positions. 👍
