Hello,

Yesterday, I received acceptances from couple school EXCEPT my top choices.
My top choices are NYU, UPenn, and University of Michigan.
I have NOT receviced an interview with them so I am pretty desperate right now.
They haven't sent me any updates on my file (rejection) and I was wondering whether they send out the rejection.
Also is it appropriate to email or contact the school and show my interest?
I am worried whether it will negatively affect me.

Please share any comments or thoughts with me.
And congrats for all of you guys who received and waiting for good news.

Expressing an interest in a school won't hurt your chances. But i'd recommend putting down a deposit at a school you have received an acceptance from (if you have that kind of money). So if one of your top choices doesn't end up working out you will still have a seat.👍

You still have 30 days before the deposit it due, so there is time. Remember not all the acceptances go out the first day. If the end of the month doesn't come and still nothing best to put a deposit down on a school to secure a spot.

i'd send an email expressing my interest, and what you have been doing the last 6 months

That's my current situation and idk how to decide between the schools 😵

Is there any case that the school send our an interview between now and when the deposit is due??

The thing is I have not received an interview invite from my top school.. So was wondering whether they give put more interview invites between now and before I put down deposit for other school..

Yeah. I know people that have interviews scheduled this week and next week. The schools probably won't send more acceptances until after the dec.1 people accept/reject though.

I guess I will do that then.. Just worried that I might seem like too desperate for them and they might not like it..

So I would have to put down the deposit anyway, right? I am short on the budget so that is why I am worried..

Yeah you would. 🙁. You could pick the school with the cheapest deposit I suppose.

Okay.. Thanks for the advice..The thing is my family won't accept it. They think any post dec interview is waste of money to go.. I am working part time but it won't cover my tuition so they are supporting me which is why I am worried.. Also they don't want me to get a bank loan (I have made a formal presentation for them to pursuade my opinion..) because they don't want me to pay interest since they are able to pay it upon me..

I completely understand. If I was in your shoes and didn't get an interview at my top choices I would just pick from the schools I have an acceptance from. It's not ideal but hey. In 4 years you will be a dentist.

Wait, your parents are supporting your tuition in undergrad or future dental school? Because unless they pay the dental tuition, you're definitely going to have to take out a student loan...

If it were me and my parents were paying tuition for my D-school, I would probably be going to whatever school they were paying for lol. Unless it was a Caribbean school or something.

Deposits are usually ~$500, which is actually a very good price when you think of what that is getting you: a guaranteed seat within a dental class. Think about it this way: $500 dollars gets you a seat to become a dentist; NYU's cost of attendance for 4 years is a whopping $430,000. And that's before interest.

You gotta put down a deposit.

I'm in a similar situation and LECOM's is $2000. Brb crying while holding onto my wallet.

They are paying my dental tuition.
Thanks for your advice. I was gonna put down the deposit..
I will see whether I have a chance at my top choices (NYU, UPenn, UMich) post december..

Anyone know a chance of getting post december acceptance at NYU, UPenn, and UMich?

I know a guy from last cycle that got an NYU interview invite march 3rd and got accepted march 30th. NYU has such a large class size that i'm sure there is alot of movement when it comes to solidifying an incoming class.

I just received an interview invitation from Penn today! So you definitely have a shot. Also I have a friend who got post December interviews + acceptances at both NYU and Umich last year and now attends NYU so both are definite possibilities still as well. Michigan still has 2 interview dates in January (30 people at each, so 60 spots left) and I don't believe they've given any invitations out yet.

In the meantime, I would still put down a deposit (that's what I'll be doing). If your parents are actually going to be paying for your dental school so that you won't graduate with incredible amounts of debt, I don't see why the deposit would be that big of a deal. Guaranteeing that I'll be at a dental school next fall is worth the money to me.

Congrats!
BTW if you don't mind me asking, what was your friend's stats??

Thank you! And honestly I'm not sure. I usually don't like to ask, we're friends, but not incredibly close friends, so I don't like making people feel uncomfortable by asking. Sorry!
