Like all acceptances, mine is based on the fact that I have to complete the school's requirements before I am able to matriculate. In my case, I haven't taken Biochem yet (oh yeah, and I already graduated in May). Is anyone else in a similar position where they still have requirements to complete? Can these courses be taken at a JC? Any 4 year university? 😕

hey jeffy,

congrats on the acceptances! yeah, i'm pretty sure the classes can be taken at a JC. at least that's what I'm planning to do haha. you should prolly call the school to make sure, but they've already accepted you b/c they see something good in you. They'd have to be pretty cold to not allow you to matriculate cuz you're biochem was done in juco.

In that case, I'll just try to make this really easy on myself and find a correspondence course in biochem. Maybe even become a paralegal at the same time for the hell of it.

jeffy, just to be safe, notify the school. if you listed biochem in your amcas at a 4-year, then you're required to update them on any amcas changes pertaining to pre-reqs. i would send a letter with return receipt...to be safe

Hmm, this is becoming too much of a pain in the ass. Think the Dean likes single malt scotch?

oh, plus, you can still take classes thru summer sessions at a lot of universities if you already graduated. good luck.

I'm assuming that this school is USC; if this is the case, I've been told that a biochem course taken through extension would be fine, as long as the class is taken for a grade. I don't know of too many JCs that offer biochem, so you may think about going the extension route.

Damn, you been stalking me! It is USC actually. And summer session actually doesn't sound like too bad of an idea 'cause it'll get me back into the schoolin' game right before med school starts.

Stalking you? LOL... I think us Cali residents know each Cali schools' matriculation requirements like the back of our hands. In fact, I'm taking Biochem this quarter expressly because of the USC requirement.

And by extension, I didnt exclusively mean summer school; many schools (including UCSD), allow alumni/staff/faculty to take a regular undergrad course for a fee during the regular school year.

That sounds like a pretty sweet set-up, but unfortunately my undergrad has no such thing. Besides, I refuse to show my face there out of fear of being recognized (I told everyone I became a cage fighter like Kip).

If I can find a course at Fullerton, I'm sure that'll be good enough.

You're from FULLERTON? Sorry. It's the first time I've heard of someone remotely close to where I went to HS. That's so cool. 😀 (yer, I'm lame)

Out of curiosity, where did you go to high school?

I ain't from Fullerton, but you can find me at 'Chomp' once every month or so. I am from the area though (kind of). 😉

BOOO. For a second, I thought we might have been classmates. That would've been neat. 😀

Make sure it is ok to wait until summer session. I know the U of MN requires that all prerequisites be complete by June of the year of matriculation. So in my case, this semester (spring 2005) is my last chance.

I'm taking physics II now. Tried unsuccessfully to get the requirement waived. My argument was that I had to learn the material for the MCAT anyway and I did really well on that section.

I'm glad Jeffy brought this up. I also need to take biochem in case I decide to go to a particular school. It sucks though because if I don't go to that school, the course was a waste. Well, not really a waste, but I'd rather not be taking a biochem course that I don't really have to.

So do correspondence courses count for this req? It sure would be nice to not have to sit in a classroom.

I just made that **** up, by the way. If a Biochem correspondence course does exist though, I'd be all over it.

So I called today and it seems like I can take Biochem wherever the hell I want! They'll even take a ****ty summer course if I can find one. Piece of advice to all applicants: Help your GPA and don't take biochem until you have to, if you even have to at all.

good news jeffy, I was just looking through the Cal Tech summer schedule and they seem to offer Biochem there. have fun

 That would be my worst nightmare. My only motivation for doing that would be to claim that I took classes there. 😛 Oh yeah, and to buy a Caltech hat. 👍

hey guys, what about the 30 semester hours of english/hum and stuff. do you know if AP classes can be counted towards them? 30 is a lot :\ and then i have to take mol bio too haha ;p.

They told me that AP classes don't count toward the 30 credit total, but foreign language credits do.
