acceptance contract binding?

Hi,

emergency question - of course my life got flipped upside down the day before the decision deadline. When I was accepted to GW - they have a contract sort of thing where it lists the things you have to complete in order to matriculate and your intent to matriculate. Is that binding? I was under the impression with AAMC traffic rules that we have until apr 30. i signed it to hold my seat because it didnt tell me that I can not matricualte to any other school once signed. I have sign the MPN note for the loans, i just did entrance counselling. Am i binded?

Bound to do the things covered in the contract you signed in order to matriculate at GW? -- uh, yes. That's how a contract works. You don't do those things that you agreed to do in the contract, and they can rescind your acceptance.

Very probably -- but DO read to be certain -- If you elect not to attend GW and go elsewhere, the contract becomes void.

Contracts are serious business. NEVER sign one that you haven't read or that you do not understand.

Okay so I can still matriculate somewhere else? its not binding me to that school?
And yeah, i should have cleared that up before i signed it but i just had the default mindset that no one is bound till Apr 30

The contract may well stipulate that you lose your deposit -- But my guess is really, NO SUBSTITUTE for reading the thing. Read it now --

nothing is binding until april 30.
anyway lots of people will sign that same contract and get off the waitlist somewhere and go to that school
nothing they can do about it... except rescind your acceptance..which is kinda moot.

The contract does not bind you to the school. It sounds like the contract outlines that you agree to fulfill all of their requirements IF you do end up matriculating (at least that's the type of contract I signed for my school). If you are holding more than one acceptance at this point, go with your gut and choose the one you think is the best fit for you. Congrats on your acceptances and good luck!

Of course it's not binding.

After all, people get off the WL at different schools and then choose to go there instead. GW (and every school) lose students like this every year.

Check the entire thing to make sure of the wording in regards to what you are asking, choosing a different school and the penalties of doing so. Likely losing deposit after April 30th since AAMC has a policy about refundable deposit before the traffic rule deadlines.
