Most DO school make you pay an acceptance fee and a matriculation fee. Several schools have that acceptance fee deadline by Dec 14-15 and matricultation fee due in March. My question is, two schools i've been accepted two have both an acceptance fee and a matriculation fee. LECOM-Erie however have a matriculation fee due dec 15. I know that after paying an acceptance fee, one can still back out of the school without getting a refund. Does the same work with marticulation fee, or is it not allowed to back out. You could probably back out if you wanted to but after paying a matriculation fee, is it like HORRIBLE to back out or is there some show of major commitment that you WILL be attending that school

I didnt know that there was a difference between the two...??

The fee due by the 14th of Dec. is only for those that are already accepted up to this point. After the 14th if you are accepted you have a month to accept the invitation and put down your deposit for next years class. After some point around May you only have a week and after some point in June or July you have one day.

The only thing you lose if you back out is your money. What exactly are you asking?

Well they are two separate things for some schools. Some schools require you pay an acceptance fee and a matriculation fee separate. But I am assuming LECOM's matriculation fee that is due dec 15 is the same as an acceptance fee and you do not have to pay another fee later.

Schools sometimes spit them because of the overall cost. DO schools have an agreement with AACOM that their first deadline for deposits is Dcember. So some schoolsjut have you pay the whole thing and don't distinguish between matriculation and acceptance. It is a deposit to hold your seat.
As for the baking out after march I would see no problem with that. Remember, other people are waitlisted and have been offered acceptance into that class as late as day 1 of schools. Sopeopl back out all the time and the schol will just fill your spot with the next person and thank you for spending the money to help them.
Why exactly does it matter thogh? I mean if you are debating between two schools then revisit them. However, if you are accepted to #2 choice and waiting for #1 choice I would say a bird in the hand is better than two on the string (or something like that).
