I think I remember them saying at my Emory interview that it is a big envelope with a big, fat CONGRATS on the outside of it

I would say that rather than the size of the envelope, the thickness of the envelope is a better predictor, although as mentioned before in the Wake Forest letter it isn't always true.

I'd figure that with an acceptance, the admin's would more often than not include a second sheet with the nowpayustoholdyour place form. I doubt they want much more of a response from people they reject.

The two I got were big thick envelopes. One you could see a big CONGRATS through the envelope!!! My waitlist was a one-pager. I was so scared - it was my first and I thought another rejection.

I got two acceptances in thin white envelopes, two sheets of paper each, no marks on the outside: so do not judge by the cover.

My acceptance letter from SLU was in a large, oversized envelope that was moderately thick.

In case anyone was curious about these school's acceptance letters this year:

UVa- Thick, letter sized envelope
Temple - Very thin, letter sized envelope
PSU - Oversized, thick envelope
Maryland - Thick, letter sized envelope
Vandy - Phonecall

In case anyone was curious about these school's acceptance letters this year:

Johns Hopkins- Thin letter
Maryland - Thick, letter sized envelope
PSU - Oversized, thick envelope
SLU- Large thick
Temple - Very thin, letter sized envelope
University of Michigan- email w movie
UVa- Thick, letter sized envelope
Vandy - Phonecall

How about MCW? Thick or thin, anyone know?

Acceptance envelopes

Emory - legal size (8x11) envelope with acceptance typed on the lower corner (no deposit)
UVA - thick, small envelope (no deposit)
Wake Forest - small envelope, single page (but at least they already ask for $$ - $100)
University of Missouri - Columbia - email and small envelope, single page ($100 deposit)

Wouldn't it be cruel if they sent out thick oversized rejection letters?

Oh, and my bank has been a real tease lately sending me oversized fat white 'information' packets with a logo that looks strikingly similar at a glance to many med schools.

Does it irk anyone else when a waitlist letter begins with, "Congratulations!"

Jefferson's letter started out with something like, "Congratulations! You've been selected for the high-priority waitlist." Temple's letter congratulated me, as well. It just seems kind of cruel. Making it onto a waitlist is not so great of an accomplishment, since so few schools reject post-interview (at least initially).

That's stoopid.

MCW is a big envelope that is fairly thick. Just what one would picture an acceptance packet looking like. 👍

seriously...it does seem kind of cruel. It's so easy to just read the Congrats part and begin celebrating. there'd be screams, cheers, tears of happiness, and all that good stuff  ... but then to find out that it's not really an acceptance --that'd really stink. 🙁

I wonder how the ideal waitlist letter would start off.......

"We are ambivalent in informing you...."?

😀

You guys are so funny!
Keep the laughs coming...

My eyeballs are like homing missiles. They can find the word "waitlist" in the middle of a full page letter in .02 seconds.
