Does anyone know how long you have before you have to accept when you get an acceptance letter. For examply if school X contacts me on December 1 and I am wait listed by a school that I would rather attend how long before I must accept or decline. And what are your thoughts on the ethics of accepting from one school and then accepting another school subsequently.

Those accepted Dec. 1 have 45 days to accept it and pay a huge deposit (usually applied to your first quarter/semester of classes). After that when the schools send out rounds of acceptance letters, the amount of time to accept is decreased, like to 30 days, then two weeks, and if you get accepted during the summer, fees are due immediately.

I don't see any problem with it. This is a big decision in your life, and YOU will end up paying tuition, moving, etc., so take your time with the decision.

It is polite, however, to notify the other schools of your decision to decline them as soon as you possibly can. But that doesn't mean if you absolutely can't make up your mind, and you have the funds, you can't lay down multiple deposits.
