hey guys, i used to be pre-med but decided dental was the way for me. please don't hold it against me! quick question:

i was accepted to dental school in december but was recently charged with public intoxication. there's a probably 50-50 i can get out of it due to the circumstances but if not i know it it possible to have my acceptance rescinded.

have you ever heard about his happening for a simple misdemeanor like public intoxication? for med school, dent school, and sort of professional school?

your help is greatly appreciated

being intoxicated in public is a misdemeanor? I'm pretty sure the majority of the times I was in public in undergrad I was intoxicated.

You should be fine. Go to your court date, see if you can get off with community service or something like that. Otherwise, be proactive with your future school, let them know what happened, and find out what you need to do.

Get a lawyer. You need to know exactly where you stand.

If you show up with a criminal lawyer, who knows what's going on, it's likely that you can get the ticket plead down to a civil infraction. If you just get some sort of civil infraction on your record you probably won't need to report it. Don't be penny wise at this point.

It really depends on what state you are in as to what should be the next best step. Obviously, buying a lawyer will solve this problem, but for the most part, you should be able to make the proper decisions regarding your case on your own if you do a little research.

What state are you in?

As other have mentioned, at least get a free consultation with a lawyer to determine the severity of the situation and then consider if you will actually need the lawyer present to improve your case at the hearing. Chances are you probably will be let off with a minor penalty off the record. But, I would not hide this from adcoms since they hate surprises.
